About Bruce

Bruce A. Cranner is an experienced defense trial lawyer best known for his work as a medical defense and products liability defense litigator, Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP)/Section 111 compliance consultant and counselor. As lead medical defense trial counsel, Mr. Cranner has tried many challenging cases involving complex medical issues and serious injury or death. He frequently defends the manufacturers of medical devices, sporting goods and recreational products including exercise equipment, watercraft, motorized vehicles and Fun Karts, as well as industrial equipment and munitions. His representative list of cases tried include defending matters involving Legionnaire’s Disease and refrigerated display cases, Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Implant Litigation (including the Class Action of 25,000 plaintiffs), tear gas and OC grenades (Lewis v. CTS, a death case), wakeboard vests and interventional pain management devices, and asbestos/mesothelioma cases. Mr. Cranner has also served as a neutral mediator and arbitrator in complex matters and has been consulted by Judges and Magistrates to assist with the settlement of mass tort cases with lien resolution issues.

PRODUCTS LIABILITY
In addition to his work as a professional liability defense lawyer, Bruce is also a respected and very active product liability litigator. He often represents insured manufacturers defending products liability claims involving medical devices, sporting goods and recreational products including exercise equipment, watercraft and small vessels, motorized vehicles, hunting equipment, and dietary supplements. He has served as national coordinating counsel for an OTC manufacturer of dietary supplements and defended the manufacturers of medical devices, industrial equipment and munitions. Bruce’s cases generally involve serious injuries including death, severe spinal injury resulting in paralysis, brain injury, Legionnaire’s Disease, or lung damage. Bruce is often retained as special ‘settlement counsel’ due to his unique training as a mediator, his experience defending mass tort personal injury claims, and his unique understanding of the Medicare Secondary Payer Act and regulations.

As an active member of the Products Liability Advisor Council (PLAC), Bruce served as the Program Committee Chair and was the PLAC conference Moderator in 2013, 2014, and 2015. He is a frequent writer and lecturer on topics involving medical liability and healthcare law, Medicare (MSP) reimbursement and Sec. 111 compliance, products liability and trial techniques, and he has served as an Adjunct Professor or Trial Advocacy at Tulane Law School.
