For over 30 years, Dan Oppenheim has been practicing law in Louisiana and was house counsel for a group of locally owned finance companies. In addition to handling collection and bankruptcy matters, he drafted policies and negotiable instruments to comply with the rules and regulations promulgated by the various local and federal agencies having oversight of consumer finance transactions. He has been a guest speaker on bankruptcy and collection practices for several organizations including NBI, New Orleans Credit Association, Louisiana Finance Association, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services, 22nd Judicial Bar Association, and Louisiana State Bar Association sponsored programs.

A New Orleans native, Mr. Oppenheim has been a lifelong pilot, receiving his pilot’s license in 1976 at the age of 17. He has been a presenter at FAA sponsored safety seminars in Southeast Louisiana and Southwestern Mississippi reviewing airmen’s rights with regards to FAA enforcement actions. He also currently holds the rank of Major and serves in the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol as a search and rescue pilot, and he is the Judge Advocate for the Louisiana Wing. 

Mr. Oppenheim is a member in good standing of the Louisiana State Bar Association and belongs to, among others, the 22nd JDC Bar Association, New Orleans Pro Bono Project, Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, and the NTSB Bar Association. One of the highlights of his legal career was when he was sponsored by the United States Air Force Auxiliary to be sworn in to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

For over 38 years, Dan has been married to the Honorable Patrice W. Oppenheim, who was also a former Talley Anthony partner before being appointed to the bench. Together, they reside in Mandeville with their three children.
